Field Veterinarian

A Sign-on bonus of $5,000 may be offered to the successful applicant(s) of this posting. To be eligible for a sign-on bonus, the candidate must not have worked as a probationary, permanent, or time-limited employee in the last 12 months as an employee in North Carolina state government, including without limitation the judicial system, state executive branch agencies, and the university system, subject to the State Human Resources Act.

Why This Role Matters

As an MPID veterinarian, you’ll be on the front lines of food safety, working to prevent diseased animals from entering the food chain and protecting public health nationwide.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform veterinary dispositions at red meat slaughter facilities to ensure animal health and food safety
• Assess compliance with humane handling regulations at inspected establishments
• Collect samples for laboratory analysis, including residues, pathology, and antimicrobial resistance monitoring (NARMS)
• Review food safety systems to ensure regulatory compliance
• Conduct audits of registered meat handlers and verify proper practices
• Sign and verify export documentation to support safe global food trade
