Security Assistant

The Security Assistant position at the Veterans Health Administration involves monitoring and responding to emergency calls, determining the nature and location of emergencies, and coordinating police resources. The role requires the use of various communication and security systems to ensure the safety and security of the facility and its personnel. This position is critical in supporting the Police Service at the Denver VA Medical Center and requires a high level of judgment and decision-making in emergency situations.
Responsibilities
- Monitor and receive routine and emergency calls for police, fire, medical, or other emergency services.
- Determine the nature and location of emergencies and prioritize events accordingly.
- Operate communications equipment, including telephones and computer systems, for routine and emergency operations.
- Monitor alarm systems and video surveillance systems, assessing on-scene behavior to dispatch law enforcement as needed.
- Compile information related to police and emergency incidents and direct responses based on incident type.
- Maintain accurate records of radio/alarm activity and document emergency call-backs when necessary.
- Implement policies and procedures for protecting information, personnel, and property.
- Perform system checks and troubleshoot equipment in the dispatch center.
- Provide high-quality customer service and information to employees and the public regarding Police Service operations.
Requirements
- Must be a U.S. Citizen to apply for this job.
- One year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-5 level, including monitoring emergency calls and coordinating police resources.
- Ability to operate various communication and security equipment, including computers and multi-frequency radios.
- Experience in maintaining records and logs related to security operations.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience with alarm systems and video surveillance systems.
- Knowledge of emergency response protocols and procedures.
- Customer service experience in a security or law enforcement environment.
