HealthierHere is a nonprofit collaborative that partners with organizations across sectors to advance health equity and improve the health and well-being of people in King County, WA. We work to connect and strengthen health and social care systems by providing expertise, resources, and robust data and technology solutions. We don’t provide direct health care or social services, instead, we engage and support the organizations that do.

Our partners include community-based organizations, Tribes, social service agencies, hospitals and health systems, community clinics, behavioral health organizations, government agencies, philanthropy, and businesses. 2. Role Overview

We’re looking for a motivated, early-career freelance Social Media Manager & Digital Content Creator to support HealthierHere’s digital presence and communications operations on a part-time, hourly basis. This is an excellent opportunity for someone building their career in nonprofit communications, digital marketing, or public health communications who wants hands-on experience managing real channels and campaigns for a mission-driven organization.

You’ll work directly with the Communications & Marketing Manager and collaborate with the broader communications team. We’re looking for someone who is creative, curious, reliable, detail-oriented, and eager to grow.

3. Scope of Services

A. Editorial Planning & Content Strategy

  • Create and execute from a monthly editorial calendar for all digital channels, collaborating with the Communications & Marketing Manager to gather information and coordinate content
  • Track digital channel performance and regularly share reports with the Communications & Marketing Manager

B. Social Media Management

  • Manage and grow HealthierHere’s social media presence across active platforms (LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube) including posting original content and engaging with audiences
  • Cross-promote and amplify partner organizations’ content to strengthen relationships and expand reach
  • Design and implement paid social media ads for select campaigns; monitor and report on key metrics (reach, engagement, click-through rates)
  • Recommend platform-specific best practices, hashtag strategies, and posting cadences

C. Website Management

  • Manage and regularly update content on the HealthierHere website, including blog posts, announcements, program pages, and resource pages
  • Enhance website accessibility and monitor performance metrics (traffic, page views, bounce rate)

D. Email Marketing & Newsletters

  • Build and distribute e-newsletters and email campaigns to promote HealthierHere programs and activities
  • Manage email contact lists, including segmentation, data hygiene, and list growth
  • Monitor email performance (open rates, click-through rates) and recommend optimizations

E. Content Creation & Storytelling

  • Co-develop with graphic designer on engaging print, digital, and multimedia content highlighting organizational efforts, programs, and partnerships
  • Collaborate with the Communications & Marketing Manager on storytelling projects centering community voices
  • Provide communications support for fundraising and sustainability efforts as needed

F. Brand Compliance

  • Ensure all content aligns with the HealthierHere 2022 Brand Guidelines (color palette, typography, photography, logo usage, tone, and messaging) and Brand Messaging and Conent Pillars
  • Ensure all content is accessible, uses plain language, and reflects HealthierHere’s values

4. Expected Deliverables

Specific quantities and deadlines will be set collaboratively through the editorial calendar, creative briefs and regular check-ins:

Editorial calendar - Monthly calendar covering social, web, email, and digital channels- Monthly Meetings

Social media content- Original posts, graphics, captions, and stories for active platforms - 3–5 posts/week

Paid social campaigns-Ad setup, optimization, and reporting for select campaigns - As assigned

Website updates-Blog posts, announcements, page refreshes- 2–4 per month

E-newsletters-Designed, written, and distributed newsletters- 1–2 per month

Email campaigns-Targeted emails supporting programs, events, and initiatives- As assigned

Digital content-Graphics, infographics, short-form content for digital channels-Ongoing

Storytelling projects-Co-developed story packages with Communications & Marketing Manager-As assigned

Performance reports Channel performance reports with insights and recommendations-Monthly

5. Qualifications

This role is designed for an early-career professional. We value potential, curiosity, and a strong work ethic alongside foundational skills.

Required

  • 1–3 years of experience managing social media accounts and creating digital content (professional, internship, or freelance experience all count)
  • Working knowledge of at least two social media platforms (LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, or YouTube) including scheduling, posting, and basic analytics
  • Experience or comfort with a website CMS (e.g., Webflow, HubSpot, Squarespace)
  • Experience or comfort with an email marketing platform (e.g., HubSpot)
  • Proficiency with a graphic design tool for creating social media graphics (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite)
  • Strong writing skills with the ability to adapt tone for different audiences and platforms
  • Organized and self-directed; able to manage your own time, track tasks, and meet deadlines
  • Strong communication skills and comfort collaborating remotely

Preferred (Not Required)

  • Experience in nonprofit, public health, or social impact communications
  • Experience with paid social media advertising (Meta Ads Manager, LinkedIn Campaign Manager)
  • Experience with HubSpot Marketing Hub
  • Familiarity with King County, WA and the communities HealthierHere serves
  • Basic understanding of SEO and web accessibility

6. Compensation & Payment Terms

  • Rate: Up to $60.00/hour, commensurate with experience
  • Structure: Hourly project based
  • Maximum Hours: Up to 20 hours per week. Weekly hours may vary based on project needs and will be agreed upon in advance with the Communications & Marketing Manager
  • Invoicing: Submit itemized invoices monthly, detailing hours worked, tasks completed, and dates
  • Paid Ad Budget: Paid social advertising spend is separate from contractor compensation and will be managed through a HealthierHere-funded ad account

7. Working Relationship & Communication

Primary Contact: Communications & Marketing Manager

Check-ins: Weekly check-in meeting (30–45 min) with the Communications & Marketing Manager to review content performance, priorities, editorial calendar, and questions

Onboarding: The first 1–2 weeks will include a structured onboarding covering brand guidelines, platform access, editorial calendar setup, existing analytics baselines, and team introductions

Review & Approval: All content is subject to review and approval by the Communications & Marketing Manager prior to publication. Up to two rounds of revisions per deliverable

Tools: HealthierHere will provide access to Microsoft Teams, SharePoint, HubSpot, Canva, social scheduling tools, and other platforms as needed

Location: Remote, with occasional in-person attendance in Seattle for events or team meetings as needed (will be communicated in advance)
