Longwood University invites qualified applicants to apply for the position of Lead Early Childhood Teacher (GA079) at the Andy Taylor Center for Early Childhood Development. The Andy Taylor Center is part of the Early Childhood Development Initiative (ECDI) in the College of Education and Human Services at Longwood University. The Lead Early Childhood Teacher will be responsible for planning, guiding, and assessing instruction. The selected candidate will also be responsible for collaborating with full-time and part-time assistant teachers to ensure smooth transitions, similar expectations throughout the day, and efficient planning. Additionally, the teacher will facilitate open communication with families through online blogs, conferences, and daily updates. The Lead Early Childhood Teacher will report to the director. Since the Andy Taylor Center will function as part of the university, the lead teacher will also have opportunities to work with undergraduate and graduate students in a variety of capacities. Additional duties include: create and deliver educational plans for students; provide information to parents regarding their infants' day verbally and in writing; inventory supplies, equipment, and materials for classroom; provide care to students including diapering, feeding, rocking, and floor play; complete formal and informal assessments for students; and conduct semi-annual parent conferences for all assigned students.

This position is located in Farmville, Virginia, and is required to work in person on Longwood University's campus.

Job Requirements

The ECDI seeks candidates with experience and/or training in progressive approaches to early childhood education, specifically including Reggio-inspired teaching. Candidates should have an undergraduate and/or graduate degree in early childhood education, early childhood special education, or related fields as well as teaching experience with children birth - eight years old. The successful candidate will also have a current teaching license that includes preschool. Candidates should be able to demonstrate a deep knowledge of the development of young children, an understanding of emergent curriculum, and experience with documentation and assessment. It is also preferred that candidates have experience successfully co-teaching or collaboratively teaching in a school or childcare center. Must be able to perform physical activities associated with the care of infants and toddlers. The selected candidates must have excellent oral and written communication skills.

Additional Information

This position is a full-time, administrative & professional faculty, 11-month, exempt position. Hiring range is $42,000 - $47,000. A successful fingerprint-based criminal background investigation is required. AmeriCorps, Peace Corps, and other national service alumni are encouraged to apply.
