400000-920:Summer Intern, Innovation
DC WaterDC Water provides essential water services to over 700,000 residents and millions of visitors in the District of Columbia. The Summer Intern, Innovation will gain hands-on experience with AI technologies in the water sector, working on projects related to chatbots and generative AI.
Responsibilities
- Gain hands-on experience innovating with AI technologies, particularly in the water sector
- Develop bots and contribute to Generative AI pursuits, including research, troubleshooting, and collaborating with the team
- Develop technical milestones and a poster board to visually represent the intern’s experience with the Innovation team
Skills
- At least 2 years of hands-on experience in Machine Learning, Deep Learning, or Artificial Intelligence
- Advanced proficiency in Python for writing clean and production-ready code
- Appreciation for iterative development and continuous improvement
- Must be currently enrolled fulltime in an undergraduate or graduate program
- Must have at least 30 credit hours complete
- Must have a minimum 3.0 grade point average
- Bachelor's or master's degree in a quantitative field (e.g., Mathematics, Computer Science, Statistics, Operations Research)
- Strong experience with Machine Learning & AI Development and deploying reliable ML systems
- Real-time data processing, monitoring model drift, and data validation
- Proficiency in Python for API-based model deployment
- Awareness of ethical considerations in AI development and safety protocols
- Strong communication skills for explaining complex AI concepts
- English

- Proven ability to lead projects and deliver end-to-end solutions, particularly in a fast-paced or start-up environment
- Familiarity with SQL, Spark, and cloud-based data platforms
- Experience in Natural Language Processing (NLP), language modeling, and sentiment analysis
- Previous client-facing roles, delivering high-quality outcomes in collaboration with diverse teams
- Preferred Majors: Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Innovation Science
- Proficient in MLOps, optimizing training and inference to maximize hardware efficiency
- Experience with multi-modal data handling and AI advancements, especially in large language models (LLM)
- Ability to balance innovation with production readiness, ensuring scalable AI solutions
