Job Description

Hourly Rate: $25.00

Working Hours Per Week: 37.5

MassArt's Technology Department is seeking a motivated and technically skilled student to join our team. This position offers hands-on experience in both Tier 1 and Tier 2 IT support, providing essential services to students, faculty, and staff. They will gain exposure to a wide range of technologies and support scenarios in a dynamic, creative academic environment.

Some key responsibilities may include

Tier 1 Support

  • Respond to help desk tickets, phone calls, and walk-in support requests.
  • Assist users with account access, password resets, and multi-factor authentication (MFA) setup.
  • Provide basic troubleshooting for Windows and macOS systems.
  • Support AV equipment setup and troubleshooting in classrooms and meeting spaces.
  • Assist with printer setup, maintenance, and troubleshooting.

Tier 2 Support

  • Perform advanced diagnostics and resolution of hardware, software and networking issues on PCs and Macs.
  • Support deployment and configuration of new hardware and software.
  • Collaborate with senior technicians on escalated support cases.
  • Maintain documentation of support procedures and solutions.
  • Participate in technology projects and upgrades as needed.

The Student IT Service Desk Associate provides technical support and assistance to users experiencing computer-related issues. They act as the first point of contact for troubleshooting hardware, software, and network problems, offering solutions via phone, email, or in person. Their responsibilities include diagnosing issues, guiding users through problem-solving steps, escalating complex problems, and documenting solutions.

Requirements

Skills & Qualifications

  • Strong customer service skills to provide a positive user experience.
  • Patience and Empathy: Ability to remain patient and empathetic while assisting users with technical difficulties.
  • Basic understanding of computer hardware, software, and mobile devices.
  • Ability to retain and recall information as well as using a knowledge base to assist customers.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills for interacting with users and documenting issues.
  • Recognizing when to escalate complex issues to higher-level IT support personnel or specialized teams.
