METRO Regional Transit Authority (METRO RTA) is seeking a motivated Data Analyst Intern to join our team. This is a paid internship with a typical workload of 20 hours per week (not to exceed 29 hours per week) at a rate of $20 per hour. This is an entirely in-person position with flexible work hours 8:00 am to 4:30 pm Monday through Friday.
Responsibilities
This program is designed to provide hands-on experience with all stages of the data analysis process, enhancing both your technical and communication skills. As a Data Analyst Intern, you will play a key role in helping METRO use data to drive decision-making. You will work closely with the Team Lead as well as other department heads to assist with data processing, provide insightful analysis, and convey results to a variety of audiences. This internship is ideal for students interested in data analytics, public service, urban systems, or applied research — and provides valuable professional experience in a collaborative, mission-driven environment. All of your work will be guided by METRO’s overarching goal of providing the best service possible to the community.Job Responsibilities:
  • Collect, clean, and validate data from a variety of sources (e.g. passenger surveys, databases, spreadsheets).
  • Complete data analysis and visualization projects in response to internal and external requests.
  • Create presentation-quality maps, dashboards, and reports to be shared both internally and with the public.
  • Participate in the American Bus Benchmarking Group (ABBG) forum, collaborating with various departments as needed to answer questions from other transit agencies.
  • Assist with upcoming software/system transitions as needed.
  • Ride the bus system and engage with passengers to better understand service delivery and rider experience.
Qualifications:
  • Minimum of two years completed toward a bachelor’s or associate’s degree.
  • Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Excel or other spreadsheet software.
  • Mathematical proficiency at the level of pre-calculus and understanding of basic statistics concepts.
  • Ability to communicate findings to a variety of audiences, both technical and non-technical.
  • Strong desire to learn more about data analysis and public transit.
