The Administration for Children’s Services (ACS) protects and promotes the safety and well-being of New York City’s children and families by providing child welfare, juvenile justice, and early care services. In child welfare, ACS contracts with private nonprofit organizations to support and stabilize families at risk of a crisis through preventive services and provides foster care services for children not able to safely remain at home. Each year, the agency’s Division of Child Protection responds to more than 50,000 reports of suspected child abuse or neglect. In juvenile justice, ACS manages and funds services including detention and placement, intensive community-based alternatives for youth and support services for families. ACS is also a key part of NYC’s early childhood and education continuum, providing childcare assistance to thousands of child welfare involved and low-income children so they can access safe, affordable, quality care.

The Office of Communications and Marketing is responsible for developing and implementing messaging strategy to broaden awareness of ACS’ mission and programs.

Communications is responsible for developing and implementing messaging strategy to broaden awareness of ACS' mission and programs. Communications proactively pitches positive news stories and prepares senior leaders for media interviews. The Office responds to a high volume of inquiries from the media and communicates complex, confidential issues with clarity and accuracy. Marketing creates public awareness advertising campaigns, guides branding for the agency, produces videos, designs brochures, reports, banners and creates graphics.

The Digital Media Producer plays a key role in shaping how ACS communicates its mission, services, and impact to the public. This position develops multimedia storytelling content. The ideal candidate is a creative storyteller and digital strategist who is passionate about public service, children and family well-being, and experienced in building authentic engagement through digital media. Reporting to the Director of Marketing, within the Division of External Affairs, job duties and responsibilities for the Digital Media Producer position will include, but not be limited to:

Digital Storytelling & Content Production

  • Create engaging, accessible, and visually compelling multimedia content.
  • Conceptualize and produce multimedia stories that highlight the people, programs, and impact of ACS through video, photography, audio, and written content.
  • Partner with program areas and leadership to identify compelling stories that humanize ACS’s work and uplift family and youth voices.
  • Manage digital campaigns from concept to execution, including timelines, creative briefs, and partner coordination as needed.
  • Ensure brand consistency and compliance with the ACS Brand Guidelines.
  • Collaborate with the Communications and Marketing team to produce polished digital content for web and social platforms.

Analytics & Strategy

  • Track and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) for digital engagement.
  • Use data insights to refine content strategy and improve reach and effectiveness.
  • Stay current on digital trends, tools, and best practices in public sector communications.

Collaboration & Internal Support

  • Work closely with the External Affairs, Communications and Marketing team members on integrated campaigns.
  • Support agency leadership with digital coverage for press events, internal events, community initiatives, public service messages and announcements.
  • Ensure all digital content adheres to accessibility guidelines

COMMUNITY COORDINATOR - 56058

Minimum Qualifications

1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or

2. High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or

3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in "1" above.

Preferred Skills

Preferred Skills include the following

  • Demonstrated experience producing high-quality digital content, including video editing, motion graphics, photography, and audio storytelling
  • Proficiency with creative software including the Adobe Creative Cloud software
  • Strong visual storytelling ability with an understanding of narrative structure, interviewing techniques, and translating complex topics into accessible multimedia content
  • Experience creating digital campaigns for multiple platforms (Instagram, X/Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube)
  • Knowledge of web and social media analytics tools and ability to draw actionable insights from performance data
  • Understanding of accessibility standards and best practices for creating accessible digital content
  • Familiarity with public sector, nonprofit, or mission-driven communications
  • Ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively with subject-matter experts, stakeholders, and leadership
  • Strong project management skills, including organizational skills and the ability to balance multiple deadlines
  • Comfort attending agency events and capturing on-site digital content

Residency Requirement

New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County. To determine if the residency requirement applies to you, please discuss with the agency representative at the time of interview.
