Our client is at the forefront of artificial intelligence innovation and is seeking a visionary Lead AI Ethics Researcher to join our rapidly growing team in Boston, Massachusetts, US . This critical role will shape the ethical development and deployment of cutting-edge AI technologies. You will lead a team of researchers and ethicists dedicated to identifying, analyzing, and mitigating potential biases, fairness issues, and societal impacts of AI systems. Responsibilities include developing ethical frameworks, guidelines, and best practices for AI development, conducting rigorous research on algorithmic fairness and accountability, and collaborating with engineering and product teams to integrate ethical considerations into the AI lifecycle. The ideal candidate possesses a deep understanding of AI/ML principles, coupled with extensive knowledge of ethical theories, philosophy of technology, and social implications of AI. You will author white papers, research reports, and policy recommendations, and present findings to diverse audiences, including internal stakeholders and external academic and policy communities. This position requires exceptional analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills, as well as strong leadership and communication abilities. You will play a key role in ensuring our AI products are developed responsibly and benefit society.

Key Responsibilities Lead and mentor a team of AI ethics researchers and specialists. Develop and implement comprehensive AI ethics frameworks and governance policies. Conduct research on fairness, accountability, transparency, and safety in AI systems. Collaborate with AI/ML engineers and product managers to embed ethical considerations throughout the development lifecycle. Analyze and address potential biases and unintended consequences in AI algorithms and datasets. Author and publish influential research papers, reports, and case studies on AI ethics. Engage with external stakeholders, including academics, policymakers, and civil society organizations. Develop and deliver training programs on AI ethics for internal teams. Stay current with the latest research, regulations, and societal debates in AI ethics. Contribute to the companys thought leadership in responsible AI development. Qualifications Ph.D. or equivalent research experience in Computer Science, Philosophy, Ethics, Sociology, Law, or a related field with a focus on AI ethics. 5+ years of experience in AI ethics research, policy, or responsible AI development. Demonstrated expertise in machine learning concepts and AI systems. Strong understanding of ethical theories and frameworks relevant to technology. Excellent research, analytical, and writing skills. Proven ability to lead and manage research projects and teams. Experience with data analysis and statistical methods. Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to explain complex topics to non-expert audiences. Familiarity with relevant regulations and policy landscapes.

This hybrid role requires occasional presence in our Boston, Massachusetts, US office.
