Our client, a pioneering research institution at the forefront of Artificial Intelligence development, is seeking a highly accomplished and visionary Senior AI Ethics Researcher to join our globally distributed, fully remote team. This critical role will shape the ethical frameworks and responsible deployment of cutting-edge AI technologies. You will lead in-depth research, policy development, and cross-functional collaboration to ensure our AI innovations are developed and used in ways that benefit humanity, uphold fairness, and mitigate potential harms. The ideal candidate possesses a profound understanding of AI technologies, coupled with expertise in ethics, philosophy, law, or social sciences, and a proven track record of influencing ethical AI practices.

Responsibilities

Conduct advanced research on the ethical implications of AI, including bias, fairness, transparency, accountability, and societal impact. Develop and refine ethical guidelines, principles, and best practices for AI research, development, and deployment. Collaborate closely with AI researchers, engineers, product managers, and legal teams to integrate ethical considerations into the AI lifecycle. Lead the creation of internal policies and review processes for AI ethics and responsible innovation. Publish research findings in leading academic journals and present at international conferences. Advise senior leadership on emerging ethical risks and opportunities related to AI. Engage with external stakeholders, including policymakers, industry peers, and civil society organizations, to foster dialogue and shape responsible AI standards. Develop educational materials and training programs on AI ethics for internal teams. Analyze emerging AI technologies and their potential ethical ramifications. Contribute to the development of AI governance frameworks and standards. Lead and mentor junior researchers and team members in the field of AI ethics. Qualifications:

Ph.D. or equivalent terminal degree in Computer Science (with a focus on AI ethics), Philosophy, Law, Sociology, Science and Technology Studies, or a related field. Minimum of 7 years of dedicated research experience in AI ethics, responsible AI, or technology ethics, with a significant portion focused on AI. Demonstrated expertise in key AI ethics areas such as algorithmic bias, fairness metrics, explainable AI (XAI), privacy-preserving techniques, and AI governance. Strong publication record in reputable journals and conferences related to AI ethics or AI. Proven ability to lead complex research projects and collaborate effectively with technical and non-technical teams in a remote environment. Excellent analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to articulate complex ethical concepts to diverse audiences. Experience in developing ethical AI frameworks, policies, or standards. Familiarity with current AI technologies and their applications. Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and drive initiatives forward.
